I work at a small community college in central BC. My current position is in marketing, and I also instruct part-time, and want to move into education development (also known as instructional design or curriculum development.)
The article “AI Delegation: The One Skill You Will Need To Succeed In The Future” by Bernard Marr provides basic information about how AI is affecting people in all fields, and mentions marketing as well. In a meeting a few weeks ago, all of us were encouraged to explore AI and how it can be used in our roles. I am inspired to learn more about it both how it can benefit me but also how to navigate it. This article is basic but a good place for me to begin to learn about AI and how it is used and how it is becoming prevalent in many industries and jobs. One of his main points is “One thing that’s quickly becoming apparent is that the key to staying ahead of the curve lies in mastering the concept of AI delegation. Put simply; this means working out what we still need to do for ourselves and what’s best left to machines.”
Relating to my current position, Marr says, “In sales and marketing, it’s used across the spectrum, from identifying business opportunities and segmenting customers to creating content and tailoring personalized promotional materials toward niche groups.”
He also notes, “Whatever their role or level of seniority, every employee has a workload to manage. And AI delegation can reduce the time spent on repetitive tasks that take time away from focusing on tasks that still require human skills. …
AI delegation – whether by managers or front-line workers – can vastly increase efficiency by managing routine elements of work such as data entry, processing and analysis, detecting errors, reviewing documents, and scheduling and time management.” These statements point me towards where to look to find AI tools to assist me with reviewing documents, scheduling, and time management.
